History

Shooting Star Productions is proud to be celebrating its eighth anniversary this year.
In June, 2003, Shooting Star Productions produced the musical Annie with a cast of 55 youth from the St. Louis and St. Charles, Missouri area.
In June of 2004, a cast of 61 youth performed the Missouri premiere of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer – The Broadway Musical. |
In June 2005, Shooting Star staged a huge production of The Wizard of Oz. This extravaganza featured 80 performers, a 9-foot talking Oz head with light-up eyes, pyrotechnic effects, and a lighted rainbow that spanned the proscenium of the stage.
Stephen Schwartz's Children of Eden was performed against an African background in June 2006. This show featured 57 youth, often singing five-part harmony. African masks, a five-tiered set, and some of the best teenage voices in St. Louis made Children of Eden a powerful and moving rendition of the story of Adam and Eve and Noah's Ark.
In June 2007, Shooting Star transported the audience to turn-of-the-century Russia when they produced the traditional favorite Fiddler on the Roof. The town of Anatevka came to life with the voices and dancing of 61 youth from the St. Louis area. The show opened with a talented young fiddler playing live, and the wedding scene featured four teenage male dancers balancing glass bottles on their heads while performing the traditional Fiddler on the Roof bottle dance. The maturity of the teenage performers created believable on-stage relationships which added to the emotional intensity of the show.
June 2008 featured an elaborate production of Beauty and the Beast with a cast of 63 young performers. Enchanted objects, a two story castle, and a shower of confetti entertained the audience during the show-stopping "Be Our Guest" number while the townspeople performed a fast-paced, lively dance to "Gaston" - both choreographed by Broadway veteran and head of the Webster University musical theater department, Lara Teeter.
The student version of Les Miserables was brought to life in June 2009. A huge revolving bridge provided a vivid backdrop for the streets of Paris while the student revolutionaries fought in front of an elaborate barricade. This show featured an amazingly talented group of young performers whose hard work and dedication made Les Miz a show to remember.

In December 2005, Shooting Star Productions added a second show to their theatrical season. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever featured youth in first through eighth grade.
The 2006 winter show, The Hobbit, brought a fantasy forest featuring Bilbo, Gandoph, Gollum and other familiar J.R.R. Tolkein characters to the stage.
The 2007 winter show was a traditional holiday favorite A Christmas Carol.
The December 2008 show featured a variety of unusual characters brought to life in a colorful production of Alice In Wonderland.
In order to showcase some musically talented youth who had not had a chance to participate in our teen-heavy summer show, in 2009 Shooting Star produced a rare winter musical Babes in Toyland. Babes in Toyland featured nursery rhyme characters, a moth queen, darling moth fairies, dancing toy soldiers and dolls, a dog and a bear, and a dastardly villian with his two lovable sidekicks.
The non-musical format of the winter show provides those elementary and middle school age actors who may not feel comfortable singing and dancing the opportunity to experience the magic of participating in live theater. |
Shooting Star Productions also holds an annual fundraiser – a Family Trivia Night. Family Trivia Night has become a much awaited event where Shooting Star Families and many new friends get together for games, prizes, and fun. Shooting Star Productions’ annual fundraiser assists the company in producing quality shows while keeping ticket prices affordable for families. |
